Hi Wendy,
Thank you for posting a question on the Forum.
In Massachusetts, it is not a requirement for a mediator to also be an attorney.
Mediators come for many different professions. Some of our mediators happen to also be attorneys, some are therapists, two are former teachers, one is a social worker, one is a former nurse, and two have been mediating since college with no additional profession of origin.
If you would like to work with a mediator who is also an attorney (or is not an attorney) I would be able to accommodate such a request in most of our locations.
Please remember, if you hire a mediator who is also an attorney, she can only act as a mediator for the two of you and not as an attorney.
Feel free to elaborate on your question if I have not addressed it effectively.
Thank you,
Josh
